3 Steps to Own Your Audience

I’m sure you’re tired of hearing about how we’re in “unprecedented times,” but whether you like it or not, it’s true.

You’ve always heard me talk about why it’s important to convert your followers on social media to an email list or an owned network, but if you didn’t listen to me before, I hope you hear me now.

Ready? Repeat after me: “I don’t own my social media channels.”

Oh, you thought because you created the account and only shared the password with your bestie, that you’re in the clear?

Sorry to break it to you, but at any given moment, you could lose access to your social media accounts. This was true even before now, but especially now. Journalists, influencers, and politicians have all experienced the feeling of losing access to their social media accounts.

I’m not trying to scare you, but have you watched the news lately!? It’s not about being afraid. It’s about staying ready so that when it’s time, you won’t have to scramble to get ready.

Here are 3 ways you can start to OWN your base of supporters, customers, and people who just really like you.

Step 1: Convert Followers into Platforms You Own

Blk Women in Biz has 1,000+ followers on Instagram, but what if the platform were to go away?

We created a Mighty Networks community that collects email addresses and other member data so that we can own these relationships outside of social media. Today, our community has 21 members. If you’re a Black woman in business or leadership, we invite you to join us. Click here!

Step 2: Add Exclusive Offers and Incentives to Your Base

Another element of our Blk Women in Biz community we’re starting is member-only coaching calls. This will provide our members with an opportunity to connect and gain valuable business advice and information to help them succeed.

As you’re thinking about your exclusive offers and incentives to build your communities outside of social media, how can you offer value that they can’t get anywhere else?

Step 3: Stay Active & Engaged

Once you’ve successfully built your community, don’t leave them hanging! Stay active and engaged. Post in your community daily, reach out to your members, and find out what they really need/want from you. You should also empower other members to be leaders within your community!
